Govinda, Akshay team up for a comedy!!

Akshay Kumar and Govinda will be seen together for the first time in Priyadarshan's comedy "Bhagam Bhag", which also stars Lara Dutta and Paresh Rawal. Audiences have earlier seen them exercise their prowess for comedy individually. Govinda was a laugh-riot in David Dhawan's comedies like "Haseena Maan Jaayegi", "Coolie No. 1", and "Raja Babu". Akshay proved his mettle in Priyadarshan's laughathons including the recent "Garam Masala". Priyadarshan, who plans to move to serious subjects after the new film, told at a press meet recently, "It's a comedy called 'Bhagam Bhag'. As the title suggests it is a totally crazy comedy of errors like Stanley Kramer's 'It's A Mad Mad Mad World'.

Salman to renovate toilets in Jodhpur jail

Salman Khan, who spent three days at the Jodhpur central jail, was so moved by the pathetic conditions of the toilets in the jail that he has offered to pay for their immediate renovation. There are about 80 toilets in the jail, which is shared by over 1500 inmates. The jail inmates, through Salman's cellmate Mahesh, requested the Bollywood star that he should do something to improve the toilets which are in terrible shape.

Jail superintendent, Mithu Lal Chauhan, confirms the news. "Yes, on the second day of his stay, Salman asked me if the toilets could be improved," he says. "He wanted to modernise the toilets and have marble flooring on them. He asked me to get the work done and said he would pay the entire cost of renovation. He suggested that I should to speak to his mother Salma, in case it was difficult to contact him, later. He promised that once the jail officials contacted his mother, he'd send the money."

"I explained to him that the jail authority cannot accept his proposal," he adds. "He should approach the state government with the proposal. I don't think there should be any problem." Chauhan said Salman has been told how to approach the state government. "The state government will ask to send an estimate and we'll let Salman know the cost involved," he says. Salman spent time in jail doing push-ups, twice a day. "He's a fitness fanatic," says his cellmate Mahesh. "He felt the jail should have a gym for the prisoners. I brought a carrom board for him and offered to play with him, but when he found the striker bearing the sign of a cross, he refused to play."

Mahesh is also waiting for Salman to give him Rs 47,500. This is the fine amount imposed by the court on Mahesh for killing a person in Barmer district, 10 years ago. When Mahesh told Salman about this, saying that if it's paid he could cut down his sentence by five years, Salman offered to pay up. "I am expecting the money to come any time now," says Mahesh. "He promised me that he would send it immediately after reaching Mumbai."

Salman granted bail !!
Salman Khan

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was granted bail by Jodhpur court on Thursday. The actor, who was in jail since Monday, after being sentenced to five years imprisonment for killing an endangered animal, was granted bail by district and session judge G S Surana. Salman was given bail on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each. Clad in jeans and a white sleeveless vest, the 40-year-old star was received by his brother Sohail, sister Alivera and his model-turned-actor friend Katrina Kaif besides Bollywood personalities Sajid Nadiadwala, Govinda and David Dhawan as he came out of the prison. A large number of his fans and supporters outside the jail cheered him as he drove past the gate in a maroon Qualis. Sohail said, "This was a good news not only for Salman bhai but for the entire family. Our mother has also been discharged from hospital in Mumbai." Their mother Salma had taken ill after hearing about Salman's conviction on Monday and was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital. Salman was not present in the court when the judge granted him bail after lengthy arguments from both prosecution and defence lawyers. He had appeared before the court earlier in the day in connection with his appeal against another poaching case in which he has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment. A large number of Salman's fans and supporters had gathered outside the court since Thursday morning, shouting slogans in his support. Police had a tough time controlling the jubiliant fans, as the news of his being granted bail came out. Police had to resort to a mild lathi charge to control them.
